C50 and 60 parts that work on a C10-30

Ok, so there are a couple C60 parts trucks here, and I was wondering what parts I should look at grabbing off them that could work on the 10-30 series trucks. What motors should I grab also if those are desireable?

This I believe is a 427 in a 70's C65:

And another big block:

They're tall decks...they're not desirable either unless you want to build a stroker.

The cranks in them are really nice forged units, though.

What would the motor be worth? Even if just parted out?

I may look into building a stroker motor from one if I can find a good guide for parts to use.

In that shape?...not much. That is assuming it is a 427 too...if it's a 366 I wouldn't mess with it at all.

They can be bored and stroked to a 496 very easily...4.25" stroke x .060" over bore. The block is 10.2" tall instead of 9.8" so you'll also need a different intake...all of which are big open plenum units. If you go with one made for a tall deck a standard distributor will work...if you go the spacer route and a milder intake you'll need a dist. with a slip collar.

Re: C50 and 60 parts that work on a C10-30

Well, i know the one with heads still on is a 427 based on the SPID. I could pick the motor up for around $100-175, depending on the day I go.

Still have to look into the costs of the rest of it. I may grab it just to have on the back burner since I already have two 350's at the house.

Are there any other parts I should grab? There are two C50 67-72's, 1 60-66 C60, and a bunch of early 70's C50-65, including one with AC

Also, would getting just the crank out be worth it to sell, assuming it is in good shape?

I'd give $150-175 for one of those cranks, IF they are any good. I got an my original ls5 motor for my car in pieces and it is missing the crank. Trevor

They make a nice motor...

If you can get aluminum heads and an intake you'll be almost back down to the weight of a 350. Those factory 'peanut' heads aren't that bad...they have small ports with high velocity designed to make torque. You'll need to get a stroker kit, though, to get rid of the heavy 4 ring pistons. The block has all 4 bolt mains and like I said....the crank is desirable.

Re: C50 and 60 parts that work on a C10-30

Yeah, i will have to look into possibly getting one or two of these to play around with. One thing I would love to do with one is make a truck motor for a C20/30 tow rig once I found one in good shape.

Also found a truck with a 292 and an engine block heater in it.

As for the cranks, I will see what I can get in the next couple weeks. I'll probably grab the one from the partially disassembled motor first to see what they go for.

Re: C50 and 60 parts that work on a C10-30

the 6.17 rear might be a good piece for a guy building a vintage rock crawler!

a stroker from one of those blocks would be a killer towing motor, especially if you keep the original top end that contributes to good low end!

the rear suspension might be good on a 1 ton towing a big 5th wheel or pickup camper!

trans is stout, etc, etc.....you could really make a mean machine out of a lesser truck!

Grab the 67-72 gauge clusters; tach, vac and pressure gauges are worth some $$.

Any chance there's a C-50 school bus in that yard? Also, the big block trucks had a cool air intake on the side of the hood...

Not at this yard. If you check out my Junkyarding thread in Alternate Tinkering, there is a 60-66 School bus in a yard that's a couple hours from me.

EDIT: Scratch that. Looks like a Dodge.

Re: C50 and 60 parts that work on a C10-30

Why are the tall deck BBs so "undesirable" (I hear that alot)? I completely understand not wanting to put one in a car. But for a truck (esp a tow rig), it's quite a nice motor. A few mods and it can be a great motor for torque. It's born with all the right parts from the factory (4-bolt, forged crank, extra rings, heads configured for low end) for heavy duty use. I was actually looking for one to drop in my C30 until I decided to go another direction. And they seem to go cheap when you can actually find them. Pull one of those suckers, rebuild it with some improvements and drop it in your truck for a torque monster that will last forever.
