Re: LS in a 4x4

I am wanting to do the same thing but in my 2wheel dr. Look up Stree & Performance on google. I found that they have alot of info on there. I think they even sell some type of adaptor plate for this. As for what I want to do I don't know what the best engine and tranny to go with. If you or anyone that sees this have any advice I sure would like to here some.

Few other threads on ck5 about it. nice one to find is the 90-91 241c tcase with passenger drop from a k5 or burb or crew and swap it in place of your np208 so you have an electric input for speedo sensor, then swap to a 90-91 vss cluster while your there.

Is that a straight forward swap? If so, I know where I'm going Sunday to get one, so I'm ready.

Bolt in wise? Gotta get a flexplate for an auto thats .040 or .4 thicker i believe, set of motor mount adapters that set it back 1", and then wiring and what not. Its involved, i haven't done one personally but got real close to doing one to my 86 k5.

Re: LS in a 4x4

Thanks, Walt, but I was referencing the transfer case part of the swap. I have a 6.0 & trans on the way, but didn't realize I would have to swap the transfer case to a newer one. This is why I like spending some free time reading this forum. You can stumble upon info you didn't know you needed.

I pulled a gauge cluster out of a '91 suburban this past month at the local you pull it, but didn't think I needed anything else. This was a timely post. So, on Sunday, I will go back and get the transfer case.

Thanks guys!

you can get an inline vss adapter. What tcase do you have? if it has the same bolt pattern as the trans your golden, if not you may get help at advanced adpaters. Dshafts are gonna change...

edit: oh, and dont bother with a 4l60e. Go 4l80e or go home!

Re: LS in a 4x4

I currently have a stock setup in the '87. The 6.0 is coming with a 4l80e, harness, ecm, pedal and throttle control module. It's out of a 4wd, so trans is ready for transfer case. If the one out of that '91 will work, then I'll snag it this weekend.

if it has a fine spline input (27 was 700r4/th350, th400/4l80e are 31 IIRC). Im not sure when the transfer case bolt patterns changed, but i think they did. Your dream combo would be a 1991 4l80e/np241 from a 3/4 ton burb but thats a rare combo. To convert from a 27 to a 31 youll need a different input shaft as well as enlarging the center hole, and maybe some other work done. While your in there guys swap to the dodge HD shafts and a dodge style slip yolk eliminator (dodges bolt on not slip in) (maybe be able to swap in a dodge input and dodge VSS output shaft onto an np208 or 241 though, not sure on how swapable all that is, over on ck5 there might be some guys who'd know)

Re: LS in a 4x4

Any pics from this site without registering??

What the difference between the 241 and 208 transfer cases?

Thanks for the replies!
