Step side bed ?

I have been thinking about going the step route. I have long like the fleet look but it is much more expencive and i would rather spend the oney on my motor at this point. My question is are all step sides the same from early 60s to mid 80s? I think there is a difference in lights but thats no problem as I have plans fot them anyway thanks for the help

Re: Step side bed ?

I am sure that they are not the same. I have seen older and newer stepside beds on 67-72 and they don't look as good as the original ones because the wheel opening is different than 67-72 trucks.

I think the tail gate on my '68 C-10 is from a '62 GMC, it fits ok.

I think the tail gate and front panel are the same for quite a few years. You may be able to put year appropriate fenders on a newer or older bed and make it look ok.

Re: Step side bed ?

That makes sense. When I bought my truck It came with an 88-98 step bed ratchet strapped on I really dont like that look and really want to get rid of it those are so common you cant hardly give them away. Thanks for the information.

Re: Step side bed ?

Tailgate and back panel are identical 54-87.
Bedsides have different grooves in them and are drilled different to match the fenders.
The back fender opening shape match the front fender opening.
The frame mount holes are different for each series, but cross rails are easy to redrill.
So...
with no work you can interchange 67-72.
With moving bedside holes you can use proper fender for each series.
If you don't care about fender shape, you can interchange 54-87 but still may need to redrill cross rails.
