car seat in a 72

Im having a problem installing a car seat in my 72 for my son so we can go cruzin. The buckle ends up right in the middle of his seat so he ends up sitting on it.(im sure its not comfy). What are you guys with kids doing with the forward facing infant seats. thanks

Re: car seat in a 72

that's a tough one... maybe an aftermarket three point seat belt...

Re: car seat in a 72

Ha! Ha! I had no seat belts at all so I snagged some nice lap belts from
a 1968 Ford F-100 in the local junk yard.

They work great with my sons car seat... buckle ends up in a good spot right beside his seat.

My advice? Measure yours & find some longer ones in the scrap yard.

Re: car seat in a 72

We have cheap walmart seats and the buckle ended right in the middle. There is a seatbelt tunnel through the seat so they aren't sitting on the buckle. I pull the car seats' cover back which gives me plenty of access to the seatbelt.

Re: car seat in a 72

Mine always did too, but neither of my boys complained or acted uncomfortable riding that way. We tend to look at what we think would be uncomfortable or painful as adults and forget that children are very flexible and limber and don't get the aches and pains we do. Just like when they go to sleep in a car with their head drooped over, we see that and automatically think of a sore neck later, but it never bothers them because of their flexibility.

I would try it as is and see if he whines or complains about it, or if he tends to wiggle and squirm as if he's uncomfortable. Also check his back when you get him out and see if the buckle made an impresssion. I never had any issues with mine.

BTW, cute kid you got there. Enjoy him being little while you can. They grow up fast. Mine are 7 & 4 and I wonder how they got so big so fast.

I agree, see if it actually bothers the child, then if it does, you could always locate another lap belt to install, used or aftermarket. They sell small lap belts pretty cheap in the parts stores.

The car seat we had also had a seat belt tunnel and the plastic backing kept the seat belt from digging into my daughter's back. I wish she still fit in that car seat. I would still have cup holders.
