Engine Swap
I am looking to purchase a GM Performance Parts 350 Ram Jet PFI Engine P# 809-12499120 to go in my 1987 Chevy. Anyone have any feed back on the quality of these engines? Pros vs. Cons? I am a little worried about the throttle body injection had a lot of problems out of one before. But this comes as a kit with computer wiring and all.
Thanks, Blue |

First off the RamJet is a TPI or MEFI, which is a tuneport or multi electronic fuel injection engine, not a throttle body injection (TBI). Also the throttle body injection is a very realiable fuel system for stock use. Where most people get into problems is when they start trying to heavily modify them. Now the TPI should not give you any or atleast very little problems. I would suggest if you are planning future modifications, I would look into a LS style engine (LS1, LS2, LS3, truck 5.3L, truck 6.0L,...,etc.) because once all the engine swapping kinks are worked out, which there will be in any engine swap, they are easy to modify and plenty of aftermarket upgrades. OR, I would just get a long block 350 without the RamJet FI and get one of the easy to upgrade aftermarket FI systems like...FAST, Edelbrock, Mass-FLO,...etc. Link to CARCRAFT install of a RamJet Engine: http://www.carcraft.com/howto/56398/index.html Last edited by murphy80; 07-07-2010 at 10:48 AM. |
