HELP!!! gas gauge problems....need help now.

My brown wire going from the sending unit to the gauge is broken. I know that is my problem. My question is where does it connect on the gas gauge? does it connect to the wire harness or to one of the two bolts on the back? if it connects to one of the bolts, which one and should there also be a ground connected to the other one? PLEASE HELP ME! i need my truck tonight.

it connects to the wire harness at the fuse block. It is grounded via the dash cluster itself.

Ok I'll give this a shot. I have the wiring diagram which can be found on the forum. Search wire diagrams and follow the geocities link. The way this works was explained before under gas gage topic. The power is feed to the gage through a 20 gauge pink wire coming from the fuse panel to the gage cluster connector. I believe this is where the circuit board comes into play. The current flows from the pink wire through the circuit board to the hot side of the gas gage. It flows through the gage and exits via the circuit board to a 20 gauge tan wire back to the fuse box where it connects to a 18 gauge tan wire. This connection is just a convient place to tie the wires together. The 18 gauge tan wire then runs to the gas sending unit where the current flow reaches ground through a 18 gauge black wire attached between the sending unit and a good ground after flowing through the variable resistor(sending unit). Hope this helps out. The part of this that I'm a little iffy on is the circuit board because I haven't ripped into one of these yet. The new truck (69 C20) is only days away from being able to see first hand.

Don

The brown wire runs from the gas tank directly to the fuse block - it's labled "FUEL GA"

The bolts on the back of the gauge are only used by the circuit board - I kept thinking they needed wires hooked up to them too.
