Rams Horns or Headers?????

took my ram horns off to go to headers and dual flow masters......but now it doesn't start that good after its been warm and running for a while...and i hear that the horns flow better?...need some info please....thinking i might have them put back on...and the headers run very close to my starter...im sure that's not good. Thank you as always for yawls feed back.

horns don't flow better, insulate your starter or get a smaller one, retune your carb and ignition to make it run correctly

An external F@rd type solenoid will solve any hot start issues from running headers.

Ram horns! Headers don't belong on anything other than a race/drag/show car in my opinion for all the reasons you have listed above along with leaking, bolts backing out, not fitting etc, etc. The higher the quality header the less likely you are to have these problems, but unless you are worried about 0.03 seconds at the quarter mile strip, then why put up with them? These are just my opinions formed from years of playing with junk.

ram horns do outflow many of the cheap headers.
But you can't simply say ram horns outflow headers.
Your problem is heat soak. your starter was probably already getting old and the heat is just making it age faster. Even if you go back to manifolds, the starter is going to leave you stranded one day.
Small tip, a bottle of cold water poured directly on the starter (kinda hard on a chevy engine, but I discovered REAL easy on my cad) will get the starter cool enough to start.

two of the primaries on my bottom of the barrel summit/flowtech ceramic headers add up to about 3.5 square inches, 1.5" od primaries. So a tick less when you go by id. The whole outlet on a ram horn is 3.14 square inches. Along with the tight twists and lack of similarity between the exhaust paths on different cylinders, how could they physically flow better than headers? Long primary headers (especially of small diameter) are pretty much made for boosting mid range power, where I drive at any speed over maybe 40. A shorter primary would mostly scavenge and help higher up. If you don't tweak the ignition and carb it might feel pretty sackless down low compared to manifolds

I like my ram horns, running dual exhaust. They seal perfect, with NO gaskets. Cheap headers will leak. Nice headers (Doug's) are $$$. A $100 mini starter will cure your heat soak problems either way you go. My .02

Ram horns!
I installed headers a month ago and have not been happy with them.
all the promises of increased HP,better flow, etc.. weren't worth it.
Plus my engine get super-hot and i've tuned and retuned. when i had ram horns my truck ran perfect and i have to admit,my engine bay looked a little better.

i prefer headers myself, with todays ceramic coatings and regular maintemance preformed i have had no dreaded issues in many years of use. i can see where the set it ferget crowd has issues with higher performance old school hotrod stuff
