A/C Rattle

My A/C works geat... typical for these trucks.. nice and cold during non-stop trips... cool at best during stop and go traffic... not bad for a 26 year old unit.. thing is, is that during low R.P.Ms, or let's say at a stop light.. the compressor rattles... only sometimes...if i put it in neutral.. RPM"S go up.. rattles stops... good to go... looked under the hood... belt is good and tight.. not very much play in it... but when I have it in gear... with A/C on.. I looked under the hood.. and the belt is just flappin away.... can't see tightening any more... it seems tight enough, I know your not suppose to to put too much strain on these pulleys.... is this normal for these compressor's? thanks in advance for any input.

Re: A/C Rattle

my original compressor and my new compressor... both GM Harrisons.. rattled from the beginning.. and i am not sure why. Only recently has the new one started to quiet down a little. But i can still hear it slightly. Works great tho..

Re: A/C Rattle

Mine does the same thing, kind of a growling sound. I've never noticed my belt moving, but if my idle rpm drops under 750 then it rattles. Anything over 750rpm and it goes away. Works great though!

Re: A/C Rattle

My 86 make a "growling" noise when the a/c is on at idle only. Otherwise shes quiet. Mine seems to still blow nice & cold at idle too.
