Re: Inline six shroud?
I have never seen a shroud on a stock inline 6 setup. There is just a protective plate above the fan for safety.

Re: Inline six shroud?
My 70, didn't have a shroud. I bought a chrome universal one several years ago, but can't remember where.

Re: Inline six shroud?
All I have ever seen is just a metal plate on top of the radiator.
I have one for sale if interested.

Re: Inline six shroud?
What temperature is your engine running? What fan does your engine have?
The 250 inline 6 in my '67 will set and idle and never get over 190, it has an after market temperature gage. The fan on my engine is a 4 blade fixed, no clutch.

I have a stock guage in my truck and and it is in the Hot!! after the truck werms up.
I also have a new cam and headers and an intake allong with a holley 2brl carb on it so it is going to run a littla hotter, I did put a clutch fan on it that is 18inches in diameter.

Re: Inline six shroud?
Some six cylinders did have a fan shroud, but I think it's only if the truck came originally with an automatic transmission. Mine had one, it was a 250 six with a 350 turbo trans, it looked just like one found on a small block truck, but the opening was off set to one side.

Try changing thermostats? I'm not sure how much cooler it'd run with a shroud. Might have to go with a better radiator (V-8 4 row) http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=125 or maybe even electric fans. Last edited by dnorris009; 07-09-2010 at 10:27 AM. |

Re: Inline six shroud?
My '69 also had a shroud on it (all original) as it ran a 250 backed by a 2spd powerglide.

Re: Inline six shroud?
My truck used to run hot as well. I have the same engine. My problem turned out to be that the cylinder head had been over machined. New head and problem solved. You might try changing head gaskets and having the head checked by your local machine shop if you can. Or try changing to a lower temperature thermostat. Or easier yet, you can buy some Water Wetter or Purple Ice from Summit Racing or your local parts store. I would only use this option as a last resort. It should stay cool with no additives. Maybe check your water pump too. To do this, crank up your truck with the radiator cap off and wait until it warms up. You should see water circulating. Hope one of these things solves your problem.

Re: Inline six shroud?
It only has a dual core radiator not a four, but I moved the clutch fan closer to the radiator hoping that it might pick up the heat faster, so I will know soon after I finish butting my new throtle pedal on it.
Thank You everyone for your advice.
