67 body on a 70 frame
Would putting a 67 body on a 70 4x4 frame be a direct bolt-on. Rather then screwing around with my oringinal 67 4x4 frame (dana 44 closed knukle, no disks or power sterring) and adding more modern axles and TC later I thought it might be easier to pickup a 70 with PS, disks, NP205 and start with that as my base and install my 67 cab, fenders and bed to it. Any help would be apprecated.

Re: 67 body on a 70 frame
A 70 wouldn't have discs as stock. First year for factory discs was 71.

Re: 67 body on a 70 frame
Thought 70 was the first year. Thanks for the info, I'll pass on the 70 then.

Re: 67 body on a 70 frame
I have a '69 K20 frame and running gear, that has a closed knuckle 44 with discs.....and power steering. I'm not sure what year the front discs were an option in the K series.
Ray, you must be thinking of the 2wd's

Re: 67 body on a 70 frame
Actually, I was thinking of the first year discs were standard. To be honest, I hadn't thought about the possibility of an option.
Discs were first offered as an option on most GM cars in 67, but they were pretty scarce until they became standard, and the year for that varied by model. It was 71 for the full size RWD cars, and those used the same brakes as the 1/2 ton trucks. Toro and Eldo could have been earlier. Vettes I think were around 65. I don't suppose there is any chance you still have the glove box sticker on that K20? Ray |

Ooops, I just now noticed that you said frame and running gear, so I guess that means no glove box. My bad.

Re: 67 body on a 70 frame
Well its back to the original frame. I just picked up 72 blazer front and rear axle with front disks with 3:08 gears. Now its back to reading posts on swaping out the axles on a 67 3/4 frame.
As always thanks for the replies, Don Last edited by 67gmcstepside; 07-10-2010 at 05:07 PM. |
