Iola WI score
I'm walking past a swap space Friday evening and a '73-74 grill catches my eye, It looks to be in decent shape, but it has been painted black. As I'm looking it over the owner yells down from the top of his trailer "If you want that grill, its yours. Get it the hell out of here." He also gave me three boxes of tail lights, headlight switches, etc. I have to go through it to see what all I got.
The grill is chrome. Does anyone have any good ways to get the black spray paint off with out hurting the chrome. I guess if the silver paint comes off, I could redo that.

Re: Iola WI score
i just used paint thinner and some steel wool to get the rattle can black off of my front bumper...steel wool pads work good for removing rust spots on chrome as well and then go over it with a chrome polish

Re: Iola WI score
I would not use stripper on it. Stripper is fine on real metal, but not something like a grille. Thinner and or 00 steel wool will get it off fairly quickly.

Re: Iola WI score
I don't want to use stripper. I don't want to see what it does to the plastic. I was thinking about reducer on a rag. Thanks for the input guys.

Re: Iola WI score
I used reducer on my interior plastics because someone got friendly with the flat black. It worked pretty good also on my windows.

Re: Iola WI score
I know Castrol Super Clean works to get paint off plastics w/out damaging the plastic. No idea what it would do to the chrome.

Re: Iola WI score
Thanks guys. I remembered today that someone one here had stripped all the factory paint off of one and had a solid chrome grill. I'm going to try to find the thread.
Edit: I found the thread and he did use paint stripper. Thanks for the replies guys. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=388846
