Small detail...But neat
The guy I bought my 70 from called today and said he found something and wanted to bring it over. He was looking in a drawer and found the original owners manual. Little worn on the cover, but not even a crease. of the pages being opened. He said his dad thought it was all balony and warrenties wouldn't be honored, so he took all the books out and put them in a drawer..not to be see again till 33 years later.
Small thing, but I thought it was cool as heck.

Looks just like the reprinted one's....big difference is it doesn't say "Reprinted with permission " inside!!! That little book is especially valuable being the original one with that truck! Quite a find !!

Yeah, when i first bought the old blue Longhorn I was handed the owners manual, the window sticker, the invoice and the recall papers. Makes it real cool I think.

The only one I had was the motor mount re-call in 72 I think.
Later they did a big recal on flex fans, but I have no documentation on that and don't even know if our trucks were included. |

Always check the glove boxes in junkyards. I found a few that way.
P.S. Checking the ashtray is a good idea too. I found $1.25 in quarters once. ![]()

Cool Andy. I have the warrenty card and plate on mine...although those items sat in the glovecompartment and they look 33 years old. Are your papers this longhorn or old blue??

I have a owner's man. for mine too.....but i'm not sure if it's the original? It's light blue and white. Does that sound like an original for a 71? It's a Canadian truck, so the manuals could be different i guess. It's kinda faded and definately SMELLS like a 32 yr old book! haha
btw, i'd take a pic, but it's in the glove box, 2 hours away ![]() Jason

mine looks like that, but a different colour scheme. Mine's light blue where your's is green and has white lettering instead of black(...i think). I'll check it this wkend for a copyright date or something like that. Thanks Darkfox1.

np, as far as I know its an original, my uncle bought this truck new in 71, there was all kinds of stuff in the glove box, I think the like.. original registration was in there, I dont recall, everything paper in my glovebox is now in a folder in my desk waiting to be put back in in 30 years when my truck doesn't look anything like a 71 or a lwb :P

Longhornmail, I used to pass by Yingling Chevrolet quite often in the mid 60's as my girlfriend at the time lived on Topeka street in Wichita. At the time I was a Junior in High School which gives you a hint that I am an "official old f**t" but even then I thought these trucks were *****ing. Only thing is then I couldn't afford to own a 71 4x4 (did not exist then either). Sometimes when I'm on a buying spree I'm not sure now that I can afford it either! LOL Not sure when the dealership went out of business but has been gone for quite some time. Just a piece of trivia / rambling, whichever it is.

The papers were for the old blue Longhorn.
Ironhorse, I have tried to find out about that dealer, and you are the only person I have ever heard that knew about it. Awsome. |
