Looking for some tips, could use the help.
Hey guys, new here, an lookin for some tips.
My Dad got me a 77 GMC half ton for my first truck Pretty sweet, I'm real excited about gettin this thing cleaned up and lookin/running good. It runs decent right now, but I'd like it to look good to. Don't we all want our trucks lookin good inside an out?! The whole engine block, engine bay, header tubes/manifold area really needs a cleaning. It's all oily looking, and grimy, Removing the engine is not an option, and I know that's be the easiest thing to do but simply not an option. What parts/areas need to be covered up or avoided when washing under the hood? And what would a good cleaner be? Thanks for the help guys! |

Don't get water into the carb, alternator, and the distributor, but the rest you can wash like a crazy man. I used to put a plastic butter bowl down over the carb stud and run a nut down to hold it, the others, I would use a heavy plastic bag and tape. soak with a cleaner and wash with a pressure source, when done, use an air hose to blow them dry.

Thanks man, that's what I was lookin for! In the "Do's/don'ts of engine washing" thread they never did talk about what to cover up/take off or stay away from, all they really talked about was products it seemed.

I will try. But I have no way to get pictures off of my phone, and no camera.
