Hey guys and gals!! Wow! This a great site, so many resources!
I am restoring a 79 k10 4x4. I have been doing a ground up resto on it for about 2 years. I work on it when I have the time and money. I am in the process of restoring the cab. I started restoring the cab and discovered that at some point a tree limb or something had put a huge dent and crease in the roof barried under 10 pounds of bondo over top of rust. The roof ended up having all kinds of bad issues and is a total loss. So I decided to chop the top off of my 78 parts truck cab and swap it onto the 79 cab. I measured, measured and measured some more and finally cut the tops off of both of them. I cut them about at the top of the front pillar and 4" below the roof skin seam on the back pillars. The cuts came out ok but they are not exact and there are some gaps that need filler strips welded in and such and some minor tweaking. The question I have is, does anyone know the inner dimensions of the front windsheild and the back window openings. I had drawn a diagram of all the dimensions but it has come up missing. I want to make sure that I have the correct space and to help square up the roof. Any help would be awesome!!!!!! -Stew ![]() |

Re: roof chop and swap question
I don't have any measurements to offer. I am curious if you braced the cab inside before you cut the roof off?

Re: roof chop and swap question
Stew, Welcome aboard !
I've got my 74, It measures 23 1/2" between the lip for the windshield rubber measuring above the steering column and glove box lock. The rear window between the seal lip at the steering column and glove box areas is 13 5/8"......
