Side Mirrors

Seems like after looking at my truck for 3 years it was looking better and better, But those side mirrors just stick out like a set of Dumb-bo ears hanging out there. So after looking at them I decided to cut them down. I love the Old mirror but it just needed a sporty look to it.
Here what I did.
First I decided where I wanted the mirror moved to
Then I marked how much I wanted cut out and marked it with Tape for the cut.
Then I marked the Mirror with a black marker to fit my welds.
Then Welded into place.
A little grinding
Primed
and painted..
I think it looks a lot better now

Re: Side Mirrors

I've been looking at mirror options for a while now...
looks nice.
60-61 used an all cast bracket that is right between what you did and a stock 62-66 bracket...
I found some, but I'm going to have to buy the doors to get 'em home

Re: Side Mirrors

If you were not particular of having the original flat end shaped exactly, you could cut the pipe, then flatten the end in a vise, and drill a new hole. Your modification just might catch on.

I thought about the very thing but beleave it or not that small piece of pipe is pretty tough and thick walled..."Chevy Tough" I would have had to put some heat to it in oder to flatten it in a vice, so sence I had to put heat to it anyway welding it seemed to work better.
But you are right if I was to do it with a vise with heat it would work well also.

Re: Side Mirrors

good mod looks great - but even after 17 posts, Im still laughing at using the term 'sporty' to describe anything on our trucks, let alone a backup mirror

somehow my truck wound up with VOLVO mirrors (id say late 70s vintage) they dont look horrible, but sure as hell aint speed equipment like what you got there!

Ok now I'm p****d, these trucks look like there in motion even when there standing still. Every panel was designed to entice the eye. Have you taken a look at some of the trucks on this site? From Bonneville Salt Flat trucks to the drag strip and some very mean street machines. The 60-66 series never had to have a sticker that said Sport or SS. They just did the job. Who do you think taught the series following 60-66 what style and speed was all about?
Rant,,,,,Rave,,,,Snort and Spit.

Re: Side Mirrors

Hay Zeus Chrysanthemums, it was a joke amigo hence the smiley guy face! seriously, breathe. I assumed anyone identifying a side mirror as 'sporty' had humourous senses.
Its not like I was talking poop while sitting in a studebaker or something - I have one of these trucks too after all! And yea, I agree, they make great Pickup Rods, Salt Pushers, etc
