Cab removal ???
what is the method everyone uses? 4 friends? 1 guy and a hoist? Make it float by mind power? Mine is totally stripped but its still more than 2 guys can handle safely. I guess I'm planning on just rounding up a couple more suckers....I mean friends but if anybody has any tips or tricks please post them here.

Don't give them beer untill AFTER it is removed and placed where you want it.
That's how I did it, I got 4 friends to remove it and place it in the back of my GMC for me. All I had to do was cook burgers and chill the beer. ![]() |

I cant remember who recommended it, but I think it was Wes; I used my engine hoist and a 4x4. Myself and one guy to help set it down on some blocks and all was well. I had additional guys when I set it back down on the frame, but could have gotten by with two of us.

which way was the 4x4 running? Front to rear or side to side? I thought about this but was unsure of the correct method.

On a stripped cab, slide it in side to side. But it needs to be a stripped cab, otherwise you run the risk of bending everything and having a junk cab.
Fine69 has an electric winch and a long 4X4 that he uses like this. Pretty slick IMO. |

I did not strip the cab, accept for the seat. I had all the glass, doors, etc. I guess this is not the best way, but I took my time and it worked for me. I put a log 4x through the window openings and took my time. It would be great if you were going to do a resto or something, where you could take the glass out and the doors off; would make it that much easier. There are some plans on here for a cab dolly; that would be nice also, but I didn't have the time or luxury for that.
Hope to get mine up and running by the middle of June, sure would be nice to hear it run and see it move on its own power again.

cab
I run a fixture I made from 2 4x4's with 4x4 spacers. (It looks like a ladder) stuck thru the doors with moving pads at the door areas. Then a cable is attached to the ends of the ladder and run up above the cab to a chain hoist and up it comes. 1 man operation & I get to drink all the beer myself.......Zoomy

The friends and beer method has always worked for me, Just remember what Longhorn said, cab first.... then beer. Things will go smoother this way.

I probably removed my cab the hard way but i did absolutely no lifting myself and it worked out great. My truck was stripped of everything but the cab so I jacked the cab up, blocked it with jack stands, jacked it some more, blocked it some more, jacked it some more, blocked it some more... you get the idea, when it was high enough, i let air out of the tires (to get it that little bit lower) and rolled the truck forward and out from under the cab. Then i rolled my previously built cab stand rolled that under the cab and jacked the cab up again, unblocked it, jacked it up, unblocked it, a quite a few more times until it was resting nicely on the stand.
The process was tedious but i did no lifting and i did it all by myself in about 3 or 4 hours... best bet though would get 4 heavily built guys over and have them do the dirty work. Remember, YOU are the supervisor, and YOU are buying the beer! '71

I just moved my whole body over to the 4x4 frame last week. Drove the 2wd truck in on monday at 5:15 pm and people started pulling shortly after by 9:00 the whole body was sitting on the 4x4 frame and the best part is they brought the beer. we tried to lift the complete cab with everything in it with 5 guys but that was a no go. Took the doors off and then it wasn't too bad.

Good news guys - the cab is safely off the frame and on some supports. Now if I only had my garage finished -
![]() 694X4 - yikes! my cab was doors on totally stripped and it was still all 4 of us wanted. Of course were just a bunch of crippled up old guys. Heck they don't call me L5 for nothing.... ![]()
