esc issues.
well ive been having alot of troubles and headaches in that past couple weeeks. trucks been running then cutting off. then starting 2 days later. then not starting. not to mention leaving me on the road twice for tows.
been here and there with it. had new ignition mod put in. then new distributor and problems still showed up. i was told to bypass the esc. did it this morning and the truck is in the same spot as it was the last 2 days. cranking with no spark. it sounds like it wants to go but just wont get there. cableguy has been helping me along the way. much appreciated. just looking to see if theres any other opinions or options. why will my truck not start??? what do i need to get it started and running? pretty sure the pink wire is in the right place and has power. 3 mechanics have had truck and i still have problems. many days without running truck and many dollars to mechanics and i have truck in driveway. my column is loose. anyone know if this is part of the problem? or anything else that i should look at?? at this point i wouldnt mind running a hot wire to battery and pulling wire out everytime i want to park. then tuch wire to batt and go. i know it sounds dumb but i just wanna be able to get it and go. not walk past it everyday on my way to work. |

I have an 82 4x4 long fleet. I bought it about 13 years ago with a crippled up original 305 with esc in it. I replaced the motor & cut out all the esc wireing, & replaced the distributer with a regular old vaccume advance hei. It's been awhile now, & my rememberer is not so pretty good, but i do believe the pink wire is the hot. (verify with a voltmeter) it's just a matter of stabbing a hei dist. & hooking up the hot wire. That'll either fix it or rule out the dist. As a source of no voltage. Good luck. John

if you hit the throttle body (or carb) with some Ether spray or a little gas...does it fire and try to start? If so...possible a fuel problem? Clogged filter, bad regulator, etc.

havent tried that. im pretty sure its getting fuel tho.
while i sit there and crank it, i smell fuel. so i think the fuels at carb. just no spark to fire. ive been having problems for a couple weeks with this. 3 mechanics, played, touched, and charged....and i still have problem and have payed 2 tow trucks along the way. i thought the bypass would be the answer and that id be driving today, but after bypass, im in the same spot.... in driveway, not driving. my steering coloum has play in it. and one of the mechanics said it could have something to do with problem?? today while trying to get truck to start, and frustrated, i should the wheel/column a bit while turning key..... and at some point it sounded like it would fire.. but didnt.???? |

The first thing to do is pull the steering wheel and tear the column down. Until you get to the 4 bolts that hold the tilt together. Pull the bolts out the rest of the way add a drop of locktite and tighten them back up. After that you need to check the connections on the column. The truck cranking and continuing to have power to the distributor kinda eliminates column wiring.
