Wow, I didn't know that.
A mid 70's-80's step bed would be much easier & cheaper to find.
Then all I'd need is 2 new LMC fenders for an original looking step bed.
Right?

Hee hee. Here's the truck we went to Alaska in. It looked horrible with the '67 cab and '66 bed, but I think that was a theme for that truck...

i think that a truck should reflect what you want and not what other people want you build your truck to make yourself happy not everyone else imop

My mama always said, if you can't say something nice about someone or something, don't say anything.

So.....ummmmm....golly....trying to think of something nice to say here....mind is going totally blank.....then....inspiration strikes!

"Well at least it isn't a FORD bed!"

LOL

The tailgate is identical from 54 through 87 but everything else has small changes.
Fenders are different to match the fronts
Bedsides have different grooves.
Cross sills have different hole spacing
Frame bolt holes are in different places
Rear cross pieces has different mounting points
Light mounting holes are in different places
But... With a little drilling, they can all be made to fit, but not visually.

No money = you do what you can with what you got! (That truck has a '67 bed now).

...and depending on year, the front "lip area" where the step bolts up is different. There's a thread somewhere where Bill (Palfstep) used a 73-87 bed and drilled new fender holes and cut and welded the step area from a 67-72 onto the 73-87 bed.

Another reason for the rustbelters to use "wrong beds" is that the 88-98 step bed is fiberglass. No rust.
