Fuel filter location
I'm wondering where the fuel filter on a 1972 Chevy truck is? It broke down on me and is stranded at a gas station and im wondering if i can change it where it sits. Cause i hate to have to pay to have it towed.

what carb do you have? the best i can tell you from this is the q-jets and similar had them in the carb were the fuel line goes in, or if an aftermarket carb it should be in the fuel line

The factory ones are inside the tank -a sock at the end of the fuel inlet tube and one inside the carb where the fuel intake tube goes in. Remove the large nut and the filter is inside. As for the gas tank one, the only way to check it is to remove the fuel sending unit.
It could have another on installed anywhere along the fuel lines. Even on the bottom of the cab so check carefully. |

if the tank strainer sock is plugged you can remove the inlet hose rom the pump and blow back into the tank with lo pressure(less than 25lbs) to clear the sock for a very temporary fix to get you home
the carb filter if plugged you remove the filter from the carb body , spray the housing real good with carb cleaner prior to installing new filter

if blowing the fuel lines... make sure to remove the fuel cap first. Otherwise you WILL get sprayed with fuel when you stop pressurizing the tank.
We won't discuss the way I learned this. Just loosen the cap.

I'm willing to bet that sock in your tank is going to be the source of your clog-on both of my trucks that thing had turned to brittle mesh, with half of it hanging out in the bottom of the tank.
