Anyone every use a cordless Impact Wrench

I was thinking about getting a regular imact wrench along with a air commpessor until I seen the cordless one. I just wanted to know if they have enough torque for auto repair. Also what brand and voltage you are using.

The battery powered impacts are great for once in a while use. They do not last when used often. They break internally and are expensive to fix. Nothing will replace a pneumatic impact gun. Even the best battery powered guns dont have the power of an air impact.

We've got a Milwaukee 1/2" drive impact at work. I think it's 18V. Use it to do the initial torque on the bolts for our excavator mounted steel shear.

That thing may not be used at all some days, but when it's needed, it hits 25-30 bolts per day, tightening as much as it is physically able to do. I bet we have torqued 1000+ bolts with ours with not the first issue.

For hobby use I think it would be fine, just make sure to keep the battery fully charged so it is ready when you are.

I use my impact/driver (14.4 volts) mostly for removing bolts on or around the motor on our trucks. I always install fasteners/ parts by hand just because its real easy to break bolts/parts when you can't regulate the torque the tool applies ( back off a quarter turn after striping ) but I can see the time savings with impact tools for the pros who need to get the job done as fast as possible. cheers, Pat

I have a Makita 18V that I use for removing fasteners that works well. I have used it for tightening bolts but I'm careful not to tighten the bolts down with it, I just run them down.

I bought a 1/2" dewalt 18v to take to the pick n pull. I like it.

I use my makita 14.4 volt 3/8 impact almost every day. I am a diesel field service tech and i have broken 15/16 lock nuts loose with it. Not going to do very many that size but will do 3/4 and under just about all day. One thing is to disscharge the batts all the way and charge them back up all the way. If you dont they will not last too long.

i have a snap-on 14.4 3/8 impact and love it. i use it an a daily basis. it doesent have the torque of my air impacts but it does most of what i need. i am a heavy equipment field mechanic and it makes it easy not to have an air hose out or listen to the compressor run.

I have had a milwaukee 18volt 1/2 impact for 10 years, used it to part out at least 50 British cars where power is not availible, never had any troubles...takes a whole car apart with about 2 bat, breaks the lugs on my F350 dually with no extensions and a good fitting socket
