That is scary...I was just using a bunch of brake cleaner on some dirty parts. I felt sick for a day or so afterwords. I'm sure it's the contact from chems.

Keep in mind that this is the reason there are two types of brake cleaner now, chlorinated and non-chlorinated. The non-chlorinated may not be as powerful but it does not contain the tetrachlorethlene (sp?) or turns into phosgene (sp?) gas when welding and so on. It's also cheaper, I just got a can of 3M non-chlorinated at NAPA for $1.99--to use on my brakes, even!

really think he should have gone to a doc in the box after he had the seizure instead of wait like a week, kind of an idiot. ive had a bit of experience with brakeleen and never even got a wiff of it(kept it away from my orifices) and definitely wouldn't weld on something that had brakleen on it without cleaning it off(weld on some flamable sh**) just my 2Cents

It's not good to breath it, it gives off benzenes (highly carsongenic) I must say though, great product, works awesome. and as for the article, when your welding you should always keep your head out of the smoke plume, and using a air extractor is a good idea, this goes to enforce that. |

hey Stocker, thanks for posting that article I use that stuff all the time. I'm going to have a good look at the label tomorrow and keep all the other advice given here in mind as well.
