Got to go to the track this weekend mixed feelings

I went with a couple of buddies that I work with. Had a great time, but the track was REAL bad. It had rained on and off for a few days, 60% chance the day we went (Friday). The track was cold and slick, even after they dried up the water. I still couldn't get any traction. I know I would have problems, but not as much as I did. First run I launched at 2500 rpms and totally blew the tires off. Peddled it 3 times and still spun. Second went at 2k and still spun. Kept dropping the rpms until finally I just went off idle. Even at half throttle rolled to 20 and hit it, yep burned them good. So what did I learn?

Cold tracks SUCK!
Cold tracks single traction SUCKS even more!
Cold tracks single traction and street tires REALLY SUCK
and last but not least,
Cold tracks, single traction, street tires, and 308 gears will NOT let you get under a 15.09!

My only win cam from a full blown race car red lighting lol.

The only good things that came out of this trip is that I know the truck has some balls. It wants to go, but the rear end is holding it back. I also know that the only problem with the engine is a good dyno tune. And everyone at the track that I talked too thought it was a mean sounding truck. Made me feel good.

The only real bad thing was that my friend is a %$^^y. The guy in the ford has 410's and a locker. We both have strocker motors. I had to get off it 3 times to get moving. He won, but by the end of the track I had ALMOST caught him. He knew I would beat him if I could get going. and each time I ran it got a little quicker. He trapped a 90 mph run and I hit a 93 mph. I asked for a rematch and he said he had to load it on the trailer. That's right. He towed it. I was the only one be sides the 2010 Dodge that drove. And I had to jump start the old Dodge. HEHE, chevys rule, even when they lose.

Any ways, my son took pics of us at the start line.

Oh, but I beat every one I ran off the line. So at least I can say I beat them at that.

You're not running the 373's posted in your sig? Not bad runs at all considering you were spinning so much. I bet some cheap craigslist slicks would help a ton. The truck looks good bro.

LOL I totally forgot about that. When I first got the truck I was told that it came with 373s It wasn't until a few months ago that I pulled the cover and checked. That's when I found out for sure they were 307. Guess I should change that.

My thoughts as well. Sticky tires are a must at the track unless you feather it off the line.

All things considering (not to mention you are in a big, heavy full size truck) thats really not that bad of a time. With gears, locker, and a set of sticky tires, I'd think you could maybe knock a second off.

Do you have a stock verter in it? I'm assuming you do not if you were able to leave at 2,500..

No it's not stock. It's a B/M 2500 stall. I was surprised that it stalled up that high to begin with. On the street I'm lucky to get 1900 out of it. On my first run I wasn't expecting that high of a stall and with my low-end bog figured I'd run it up as high as I could to get around it. When I lined up to the tree and held the brake I gave it the gas. It kept going and going so I stopped at 2500.
We, I learned THAT WAS A BAD THING TO DO! On the street there seemed to be some traction, but on the track there was absolutely NONE! So each time I would lower the RPMs by 500. Even at no stall just easing into it was no good. The track was really bad. I don’t plan on going back until I get better tires, re-gear and lock it.

I know for sure that I can cut at least a full second off that time. I spent more time trying to go then I actually did driving. If I get the traction fixed I’m in 13’s easy. And then I’ll be happy.

Re: Got to go to the track this weekend mixed feelings

Was this 1/8 mile? You mention him at 90mph and you at 93mph.
Then you mention going 13's easily if you fix your traction issue.

If this was 1/8 mile and you went 93mph, you got a lot more than a mid 13 in it. More like low 12 to mid 11.

If it was 1/4, your probably going to need a few more mph to go in to the 13's even with a decent 60'. I'm gonna guess it's there since you had to peddle it so much.

If your around 4,200lbs and trap at 93 and cut a 1.9 60', I'd gues you'll go aprox 14.50.
If you gan get up to 97mph and cut a 1.85, I think you'll be closer to a 13.9x.

It was 1/4 mile at 15.09 at 93 with a good 30 foot of in and out of the peddle.
The mid to high power range in really good. If I had that extra 30+ feet and could actually launch I think (HOPE) I could hit 13's. Even a 13.9 would be fine. The scale was down at the track, so I don't know the weight of the truck.
