It gives you the benefit of disc brakes and 5 lug if you keep the stock rotors. Replacement parts are much cheaper too. It's a fairly straightforward swap.

Re: swapping mid 80's front end into my 68?

i tried searching the site and havent found anything, possibly using the wrong titles, is this swap done using the entire front end or just partial? you wouldnt have any links would you? This would be cheaper than going through cpp for everything and be quite easy since my truck will be down to the frame by weeks end or am i easier off buying everything? going to buy all new wear parts, ball joints/ sleeves, tie rods etc for safety and driveablilty regardless

Here's 40 threads from just one description in the search box.
Put in disc brake conversion and you will get more.

Re: swapping mid 80's front end into my 68?

thanks i wil have a look, the disc part wasn't all that important as I had planned a CPP disc conversion all around, but the links you put forward I'm sure will have the info I am looking for, never even thought to put that in, thanks for the help, getting pumped to get going on my build again, looks like I finally found a cab that's worth fixing.

Re: swapping mid 80's front end into my 68?

You can go as compl;ete as swapping the entire crossmember, or just do the A-arms out. You can do just spindles too, but you will need to change ball joints.

Re: swapping mid 80's front end into my 68?

Don't forget while you are looking that you can use all the way up to '91 year model if it is a suburban. They did not change the body style like the trucks did after '87. However the rotors will be the heavier 1.25" instead of the regular 1".

I used the entire crossmember from an '89 burb and I only had to drill two holes and widen two, the rest of that sucker just bolted up. Take a look on my build thread if you want.
