well im gonna look at a gmc tommorow and from my normal chevy observations it is a 69 72 cause the hood but how can i tell the years apart you know 69 70 or 71 72

69-70 is tough, the grille will be the plain solid grille. No paint, and no GMC letters.

71-72 will have the grille with the black paint in the middle.
72 will have the 72 only doors, mirror on the glass, and a few other slight differences.

Of course the VIN will tell you the year too.

I don't know about the 69, but the 70 GMC with polished aluminum grill has a black stripe around the grill, but not down the nose.

as a kid it use to be cool to find the 2 digit year on the tailight lens, every year was probably a new style so the lens did not carry over and it was easy to tell what year it was.

I am not sure about 69-72 if they had the same lens carry over or not. ... I am not much help just remembering being a kid.

The top bar on some 69 grilles may have little extensions that run under the eye brow trim. I had one 69 like that.

just check the vin to know for sure. the 3rd number will be the last digit of the model year. example ce148f####### the 8 means 68.

ya ever since i was born my dad made me just look at the car or truck obseve the differences and then decide what year it was so i never learned that way

I used to be able to do that to all brands of cars, till the 90's when everything just became an unstyled blob LOL! I think that's alot of the reason I like the older stuff, I know what I'm looking at!
