Question on cost of gas tank... (mine is leaking)
For the last few months I've been noticing a very strong smell of gasoline in my truck. At first I thought it was just the gas cap venting and some of the fumes going into the truck in this hot weather, but it's gotten so bad lately that I dug a little deeper.
I cleaned the bottom off and found a tiny little pin hole. It's so small I missed it the first time I checked. I looked at the cost of tanks and found they cost between $150 to over $200. What is the difference in the tank that there is such a wide cost margin? |

Not saying it would be better. some companies sell the exact same tank for more money. If you buy a Quanta tank you will pay more cause the are made in north america. They are about the best. The ones made over seas all range in prices depending on the store thats selling them. Just depends on how much overhead they have etc. |

Re: Question on cost of gas tank... (mine is leaking)
You could do a temporary repair if you need to drive the trunk until you get a new tank.

Re: Question on cost of gas tank... (mine is leaking)
Contact several of the guys in your area that scrap them out...someone will have one. I had a pin hole in one of mine about 8 years ago and didnt have the funds to replace it.....I JB welded it and it lasted about 7 years before it started leaking from a different location. I have also JB welded one of my Suburban tanks and it held untill I replaced it many years later.

Re: Question on cost of gas tank... (mine is leaking)
I jb welded mine and it lasted about a year. Im in East Texas and you can have mine if you come get it. Needs to be patched but if you want it you can have it. I put in a blazer tank in mine. If you clean the tank out, you can take it to a shop to get it patched pretty cheap.

Re: Question on cost of gas tank... (mine is leaking)
I'd personally feel better installing a new tank over a 40+ year old one that could have all sorts of scaling and flaking rust going on inside it. At leat with a new one, you'll get a clean tank with another 40 years befere it will crap out.

Re: Question on cost of gas tank... (mine is leaking)
Thanks for the offers of free tanks guys. I actually have another one that I took out of my 69 Chevy and may use it for now. I'll probably have it cleaned clean and coated internally.

Take a flash light and look down in it....I have only ever seen 2 types.....bad and good. They either are rusted up or they are fine. You will know as soon as you shine the light in it if it is goog.I try to use 2 fule filter on all mine anyway.
