Re: Bed mounting??
Major differences are in the fuel filler area, and tailgate hinges. Mounting locations should be all the same.

Re: Bed mounting??
Not true.
Fuel doors changed, and the ribs in the bed changed dimensions slightly (older models vs newer, unsure of the exact year though). Otherwise, they should be identical.

Re: Bed mounting??
Actually, I have noticed a difference in the mounting bolt locations on some 73-87 longbed trucks.
It's the 2nd set of bolts back from the cab. Most trucks have these bolts passing through the 3rd bed cross sill back from the cab. They're lined up with the frame crossmember at the spring hangers so extra long bolts that pass all the way down through the frame are used for easy access to the nuts. Some trucks have that 2nd set of bolts up closer to the cab. Passing through the 2nd bed cross sill back from the cab. These ones use shorter bolts (like the other 6) that only go through the top rail of the frame. Trucks I've seen with this bed bolt arrangement have all been longbed 4x4's.
