'57 Newbie (Father/Sons Project) - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello,

Picked this '57 3100 Stepside up for $1500. First time project. Retired Navy/Disability. Truck has Orginal Straight 6 and 3 on the tree. Mostly surface rust with exception of normal places, cab corners (small), rocker panels, stepside panels. I also recieved with this deal another hood, pair of front fenders that that are mint. Also a complete cab section and ricker panels. I know it will take some time and some money, but the quality of time with my 11 year old and my 4 year old is more important. I look forward to sharing this time with you guys and I will need your help and advice. Attached are pics. I plan on trying to keep as original as possible. I will update to make safe and comfortable to drive.

Welcome to the board. Always nice to have another 47-59 guy here. That truck has some nice patina. I wouldn't touch the body if it were mine. Just some engine/suspension upgrades, nice interior, nice wheels and drive it like it is.

That's what I would do also.

Thanks guys for all the inputs. I can tell this is a group that has a passion for the old trucks. And my hat is off to all of you who have served this great country. I too, have served and lost friends, please pray for those who continue to fight so that we may have the right to enjoy a hobby such as this. Thank you. Now, here are more Pre- Inspection pics.

Okay guys I am going to try to update all of you. I have been doing a lot of research on the truck. The guy I purchased it from had extras that were included. I have since gone back to pick these up. They were: 2 front fenders, extra hood, extra box with side tire mount, another cab, tail gate, rocker, and misc parts like leaf springs, inner etc. I really think $1500 is looking a lot better. I will take pics tomorrow and get them on. I have been getting my shop finished (inside) to push her in and start. I have a 36 X 40 Metal framed. Pics attached of beginning. I will take updates tomorrow. I also had a rough time around Veterans Day. I found out more circumstances around a friend of mine who was KIA in Iraq during Battle of Nasiriyah. It got to me really bad. Hope you guys understand. I am excited about getting started on this project. I just had a fellow restorer GIVE me a 1955 original 265 ci V8 that he took out of a chevy 8 years ago to replace with a 350 ci. Runs fine. I will probably rebuild and bore to 283 ci. What you guys think? I am not in to the Hot Rod scene. I like a nice looking & sounding engine that I will drive everyday. I will pull a small trailer with mower and such. Anyway, here is pics of shop.

Update: Shop is up and running. Minor tweaks here and there but truck is pulled inside. However, The above shown '57 has been sold. I ran across a another '57 4 blocks from my house that the body was in alot better shape. I got it for $1200, cranked it up and drove it home. I sold the first one to a young guy here in town and we are working together on them. I will be making a build thread for the second truck. Excitement is in the air.

I thought that you weren't coming back. That's cool that you found another/better truck and sold the other one. Now you're going to have two builds going on? That should be a cool time.
