Buying "1970" Truck Licenses Plates in Ohio

Ok...for those in Ohio. I went in today to ask what it would take to switch from Antique Licenses Plates to a set of 1970 Truck Licenses Plates. I was expecting a real nightmare. Well...I took in my 1970 Truck Plates and the clerk asked for my title and she checked my info via the computer. In about seven minutes and $6.50 later I have my 1970 Truck Licenses Plates for the Circuit Rider. The Clerk said to keep the old antique plates and the new plated are good till 11/2050. By then 70cstjr will have the Circuit Rider in his hands. All went as smooth as silk.

yep, real simple.
You need to keep the historical plates IN THE VEHICLE whenever driving, and you WILL get rookie cops questioning you, possibly moreso if you go out of state. (not sure on the latter, but I have gotten grilled by a few local CPD officers)
I've been running 72 plates on the burb for a couple years now.

Really? only 40 years? When I got my historical tags for my Harley it was stamped "Perminent Registration". But that was several years ago....like nearly 20? man I'm gettin' old.

Good point...the clerk said to keep the Historical Plates in the car with the registration.

Yea its simple. I have done it.

Last time i did it i ended up putting regular plates back on because it became my daily driver.

In my neck of the woods if they know your driving it daily they will stop you and question you.

In my neck of the woods they are just glad that you have plates on the car.

Re: Buying "1970" Truck Licenses Plates in Ohio

I've had one officer say something to me about the fact I was driving it, but he never even got out of the cruiser. It's almost a blue law around here. I wouldn't do it on my only vehicle though.
As far as the exp date verses Perminent Registration, I think they changed this 4 or 5 years ago. The BMV was looking to pad its account a little more, just like some of the BS they did last year.
And yes Jim, you are getting old. (someone had to)
