I'm up for some new front shocks for my truck just wondering what you guys are using ?
also in the pic the bottom eye off the old one is slightly bent are they like that new or is it just bent from misalignment ?

Re: Shock absorbers

Im using KYB shocks. I got mine from Federated Auto Parts. I don't know if you have those Down Under, so you might be able to give ECE a call. They carry the same brand.

As far as the bent part, it may have come that way. It's really the rubber cushion that aligns the bolt anyway. It's not a big deal.

Re: Shock absorbers

I'm using KYB Gas-A-Just shocks (odd name for a non-adjustable unit) -- put them on our old Grand Cherokee as well. Good shock for the money, a bit firmer than OEM and seem to last a long time.

Re: Shock absorbers

For the front of these trucks get the biggest badest shock you can. You will be amazed at how good they handle.

Re: Shock absorbers

I ran KYB and found that they were light on compression damping, bottoming out from dips in the road (I'm not one of those guys that brakes for dips and speedbumps). Stuck some Monroe Gas-Magnums in the front and liked them much better.

I don't doubt your story (and I don't know which KYBs you had), but I'm gonna give the flip side of this...

Before I got my KYBs, I had Monroe Gas Magnums on my K20 -- massive shocks. Seemed pretty good for a while, but they got mushy sooner than I had expected. The KYBs gave much better jounce & rebound control, and I have yet to notice any softness on compression or bottoming.

I remember comparing stuff like rod & piston diameters at the time, but don't recall any specifics. I know I learned there's more to shock absorber effectiveness (and life) than just size or brand.

I'm not trying to promote KYBs, just relating my experiences. I have never owned any top-rated premium shocks so I have no idea how much better they might be.

I agree, especially on the front. I just bought a set of the Ride Tech billet shocks. Pricey, but what isn't on these trucks.

Re: Shock absorbers

KYB Gas-A-Justs here. Kind of firm, but my truck is a C-20.
