A/C retrofit
Anybody know if the rear A/C unit from a new burb would fit in the spare tire well of 67-72 series?

Re: A/C retrofit
SERIOUSLY????????? HAS NO ONE THOUGHT OF ADDING AN AC UNIT TO THE SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL IN THEIR SUBURBAN? It was the first thing I thought of since my spare tire is on the roof.

Re: A/C retrofit
no pics of it but i have one currently mounted to the roof inside of my burb.its not hooked up though. i had to extend the front monting brackets to reach the cross brace in the roof
edit: the cover also does not fit perfect in our burbs and will need some mods to make it completely cover the unit at the rear, as there is a open gap between it and the inner body Last edited by project 67 sub; 07-31-2010 at 08:53 PM. |

Re: A/C retrofit
Check out this thread I have pics of a 90 model unit I have mounted in mine. It is not hooked up yet, but it will not be a problem to do so. I think it fits in pretty nicely.

Re: A/C retrofit
thats actually not half bad. i would rather have in the middle of the roof as opposed to the rear, do you think it could be mounted like that and run the lines off to the side?
also, how did you setup the front and under hood stuff?

Re: A/C retrofit
You would have to get longer lines to run around your windows unless you have a panel. I chose to put mine in the back because it looks like it was made to fit there. I have my truck off the frame right now with nothing hooked up, but I have all the hoses and everything. The lines just tee off out of the evaporater core and run along the frame rails to the back. I am using the motor and all the accesories (serpentine) out of the 90 model. I plan to fit the evaporater core unit and blower motor from the 90 to my firewall, that way I will have a more current a/c system that doesn`t use the poa valve. I think the newer model units fitted in the spare tire well is a great idea, they probably are plumbed similar to my set up, I just had access to a complete 90 model truck that I could pull everything out of. I plan to run my hoses through the back part of the spare tire well and use the rest of the area as a small compartment.
