Quadrajet vs Edelbrock

will running a performer rpm alum. intake help the flooding issue? I spent alot on this motor and dont wanna flood it (gas in oil). Also, Im running an eddy, I used the gasket with 4 holes, its a dual plane intake. Is this correct?

I don't think an intake is gonna help with a flooding issue, sounds like too big of a carb or not a good carb. It should not flood ever, unless something is wrong, like with the carb or you just pumped the guts out of it.

oh you mean the fuel boiling thing, well here's the deal I only had it happen on an aluminum intake, the stocker on the 86 never did it nor did the stocker on the 84 both with the same part no. edelbrock but my 350 with a weiand action plus did it in the summer, it never flooded the engine with gas but it was hard to restart on hot days after a quick shut down, I bought the edlbrock heat insultor gasket and fixed it. Never had it happen again.

i love Q jets they are great carbs, they worked fine for GM all those years, most people hate on them because they don't understand them, i like edelbrocks too but i to have the hot start issue but not with my Q jets, holleys are for fords

how do you tell what q jet you have? (cfm)

I have one that worked ok..theres a guy in manchester hub thats supposed to be amazing with q jets 100$ and he rebuilds/tunes it for ya, supposed to be great, my barber told me about him..lol

i use the wood carb spacers to keep the carbs cooler.

Both Edelbrock and the QJ's can work well.

I like the both, just depends what i have laying around

Do the wood spacers really help?? Do you know anything about the plastic ones?

I like q-jets because they are basicly free, and once you do a few its not a bad rebuild. I got a book on rebuilding them that tells you all kinds of tricks of the trade, installing shaft bushings, etc. its a must. I forget the name, something like rebuilding and modiying your q-jet or something. BUT there is nothing wrong with the edelbrock and easy to tune. I took one off a shelf that sat there for years, slapped it on, tapped on it to unstick the float and did nothing but adjust it and it ran great. not to bad to overhaul either. Holleys are good too, more or a power/race carb and not so much for economey but good and easy to work on. ONCE you LEARN how to work on them and tune them yourself, they are all good and do the same damn thing..

maybe if you want it to catch on fire. Gas soaked into wood and one backfire and it'd be on fire for a while I'd think. The gasket is cheap enough spend $15 on the heat insulator and be done with it.

I have used these and they DO work very well,

I dont remember the numbers but i did do a tem test with a heat gun and there was a huge temp drop at the carb

well ive had q-jets,eddys, and holleys, and ts pretty much like ths for me...

cheap dependable beater= q-jet
dependable nice-looking daily=eddy
speed-toys=holley

q-ets i hate only when it doesnt work good anymore. i cant mess with them, but they are a dime a dozen at the yards and i can buy 3 or 4 and bring my ride to a buddy's house and he tries them and tires to adjust tehm out till he gets one nothng is wrong with or its somethng he can easily fix. this is my low budget good all around carb id say. enough economy and performance n one package
eddys "performer" carbs are definately not much in performance on a built motor IMO. but hell you really dont even have to tune them, just throw em on and ride. damn dependable carbs tho, they do the trick on most rides.
but for performance, definately holley, way better throttle response and harder launches, just all around more power. besides the expense of gas mileage that you lose, only other drawback s not being able to tune one, but thats why i got buddies that can and will for a simple cold beer
