Re: fabbing a dual exhaust with stock headers

Are we talking about a 305 V-6?

And what do you mean "stock headers"?

If you want a good, well made exhaust system go see Dennis @ Mel & Son's on the Ave north of MacDonald just past where 80 crosses over... they are on the right side as you head north.

Re: fabbing a dual exhaust with stock headers

I am guessing that by stock headers he means stock exhaust manifolds?

Re: fabbing a dual exhaust with stock headers

yeas. what he wants ids to use the stock 305 v6 exhaust manifolds, and run duals all the way back, instead of the crossover...

I would say either get a shop to do it, probably would not be too much $$, ofrif you want to do it yourself, places like speedwaymotors.com will sell you bends and lengths of pipe, and hangers, so you can do it yourself..

That's great to hear! For me, the part that usually takes the most time building custom exhausts are the bends that attach to the manifold flanges or collectors on shorty headers. Check with some of the exhaust accessory or parts suppliers for the correct transitions and some J- or U-bend tubing (sometimes local muffler shops will sell you left over bends for pretty cheap). Good luck and post some photos when you can.

Re: fabbing a dual exhaust with stock headers

I built my own exhaust once a long time ago. We stayed up all night on Friday to get the new engine inmy old 76 c10 shop truck, got it all hooked up and running, but the muffler shop closed at 12 on Saturday. Not to be denied i took some pipe, torch heated and bent it and threw on some old mufflers and mig welded it all together. Took twice as long, sounded like a pulpwood truck and backfired anytime you let off the gas. I was young and impatient. That was my first and last exhaust install. For 200 bucks including the flowmasters (real not fake) my 63 sounds great. That's what I would do, but I don't have the patience of Job. I hope you do.

Re: fabbing a dual exhaust with stock headers

I have headers, but on manifolds, most exhaust guys will not undo the flange. (They are afraid to either break a hard to get part, or snap off rusty bolts.) Instead they will drop down 3 or 4 inches and cut the pipe off, then flange the new pipe over the existing and weld it up.
