Starter question!

Ok guys, Ive got one for you!
99 k1500 burb. GMC. 5.7 etc. Just put a new starter in. Old one was dead. Now, it is cranking. all the time. If i connect the battery, it cranks. Any ideas? I dont understand electronics very well. Is a component fried some where. I removed starter relay, and it didnt fix it. It just cranks, so Im pretty sure it isnt that..... HELP!!!????

Just to make sure, unhook the large cable from the starter, hook you battery back up and see if you hear the solenoid on the starter click. There should be a small wire attached to the little screws at the top of the starter. These get 12v from the turning of the ignition switch (basically). If for some reason there is 12v on the little wire, it will kick the starter in.

Check to make sure you don't have the start wire pinched or touching the wire from the batt.
