Will a 350 tranny bolt to an inline 6? or better yet.....i have a 5 speed (dont know what type of tranny) w/granny gear and want to convert to an automatic.....what trannys will work for me? Thanks!

Yes a TH350 will bolt up to an I6 engine as long as it's a 230,250, 0r 292. You will have to remove the bellhousing crossmember, change the flywheel for a flexplate, change to a different starter, add a transmission cooler, and shorten your driveshaft. I'm sure I've forgotten a thing or two, but that's the basics. So you have a 5 speed in your truck now? If so that isn't stock. What year is your truck?

Yes, as mentioned the 194 through 292 blocks have the same trans mount...the only thing to keep an eye out for on on the trans bellhousing is for the BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) pattern that appears to have a large dip on the top that accommodates the two higher trans bolt locations of those blocks.

wow....i thought it would be a simple bolt on process and shorten the drive shaft.....hahahaha......i have a 62 LB. and yeah, i have a 5 speed on the floor with granny 1st. i really want to convert to automatic so the wifey can drive. where can i find all those other parts i need?

If your 62 has the original engine, it's a 235, and a TH350 will NOT bolt up without an aftermarket adaptor plate. If you don't know what engine is in there now, count the valve cover screws.

This is puzzling to me. If you have a 5 speed with a granny 1st gear, I'm wondering what engine you have. A 4 speed with a granny 1st would be the common trans.

5 speeds were available on the big trucks going back at least into the 50s. Look for names like Clark, Fuller, and Spicer. These will bolt to a 235 using stock parts, so it is certainly possible to put one in a pickup. They are huge and heavy though, so it is hard to make a good case for doing the swap.

where can i get an adapter plate from? are they easy to find? pricey? thanks. oh and how many screws should there be for it to be a 235?

350 bux plus the cost of a new starter.

A 54 or later 235 will have 4 screws around the edge of the valve cover. Earlier engines have 2 studs going through the center.
