Driveshaft carrier bearing replacement? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have never replaced a driveshaft carrier bearing in a truck before. What all I am looking at to do it and how do I do it? Thanks for the help!

Slide the shaft out. the bearing is press fitted to the shaft. it is easiest to use a press to slide it off. and same going back on. if you dont have acces to a good press than for install just use a piece of pipe the same diameter as the bearing a tap it back into place. be sure to note how far the bearing is on the shaft. when installing make sure the shaft is true to the frame and everything is sqaure. take time installing the bearing and try not to knick the shaft where the bearing goes onto. its not to difficult. i just finished mine a couple days ago. but make sure your u joints are good or you will tear up the new bearing.

sometimes the bearing will just come out and be able to be replaced by hand
