Throwing it out there.

Just wanted to know what everyone thought just before I went through with it.
I recently bought a rotted out 66 c-10 lwb with a 327. Thruck does not run cab is completly gone, so is the front end. The only good metal on the truck is the bed. These trucks are hard to come by here in Michigan. So i spent $300 on this gem. So i was thinking about sell my 1st build to pay for this build. 1st build being a 87 Iroc-z. Car is lots of fun but i hardly drive it now, and this truck makes me a little crazy. This truck will be my 2nd build and i just don't want to regret anything. I want to know if you sold your 1st build did you miss it, would you have kept it if you could?

Here is my question and how I deal with builds..

Everything is forsale.. can you get that price for your iroc?

If you love the car but have to take less than you really want for it to build your truck you best get the truck on the road asap so you can fall in love with it or you might find yourself a bit upset..

Get out your check book! I built a 10 sec 87 camaro for half the cost of my 65 chevy build and I havn't even did the body work yet. But the 65 gets more looks and holla's when it had a 6cyl and 3 on the tree than my camaro and it was an earth shaker! But my best advice would be get whats good off your truck, sell the iroc and find a solid truck from the south and bring her back. I have a 69 Camaro SS, it's pretty much bone stock except for the TTO Mag's, Thorley headers and traction bars...old school stuff I added. It's way cool, and it's done... paint, interior, drivetrain, everything.

But IMHO the 60-66 trucks have character and styling that cannot be matched by any other era of car or truck.

Call me crazy, the wife does all the time, but when picking a favorite our '65 C10 wins hands down. It's my favorite, and it's far from finished.

My advice; Don't sell your IROC-Z.... but keep the truck. Build the truck as the money and the time are available. If you get burned out on the truck the Z will recharge your enthusiasm.

Bought it back first chance I had!

Unless you're just sick of the look of the 87 and have completely lost interest, I'd suggest you hang on to it for a few months. Don't look at it and don't drive it if that is practical. When you're convinced you don't care about it anymore, go take it out for a spin and see if you still feel that way, or if one trip around the block completely changes your thinking, and you just can't live without it. Maybe getting rid of it won't matter near term, but 15 years from now you may be really sorry. It's hard to get over a car you've had since you were 17, especially if you built it yourself.

Similar to what jkb said above, I'd start off with the best truck I could afford, it will save you a ton of money and labor in the end. It's easy to spend $20k on one of these trucks and end up with something worth half that amount (or less) if it was a rust bucket or had a lot of body damage to begin with.

Conversely, my last daily driver was a 1946 Ford sedan street rod I also built myself. It was a parts car when I started and it ended up a black lacquer beauty. We put over 300,000 miles on it in 8+ years so there was a lot of personal history invested. I sold it to finance my current 1960 GMC, and I've never missed it once in 20 years. If I could trade back for my 46, I'd prefer to keep my truck.

So all I'm saying is take your time and make sure how you really feel about letting something go you'll likely never be able to get back.

I'm just getting back into the car thing after kids and all and a 20 absence and just picked up a 65 Chev shortbox stepside I couldn't afford the 15 grand for a 69 Camaro serial number but if I could have some of the cars I let go for next to nothing back in the day I'd go back in time and keep them in a heartbeat. Literally if I had those cars now I could sell a couple and retire. The Iroc may not be worth a fortune now but it'll probably get there in 20 years so try to keep it.
