14 bolt question

I have seen plenty of 14 bolts diffs, on trucks, with the wheels on. Kinda hard to tell much about the brake setup that way.

Are all the drums or rotor conversions mounted the same way? Or do they differ over the years? Do any 14 bolts have floating drums?

There are later model semi floating 14 bolt rears that do have "slip on" drums, but they are not the same as the "traditional" big 14 bolt. I have never done a disc conversion to a 14 bolt, so I am no help there.

There are a few places selling disc conversions for the 14 bolt.

I put disc on the back of my mudder. I'm the cheapest guy around so I built the brackets myself and welded them on.Used the same calipers as the front because of no concern for an e brake.

I haven't seen a dual wheel slip on drum but then again there is nothing late model on my place

I don't think any older 14ff had slip on drums, but I had one from a 90s that had the slip on drums, and was a full floater. Was off a 3/4 ton, maybe that had something to do with it.

My 14bolt Full Floater is giving me fits atm, trying to replace the wheel seals. It has slide off drums (held on by two screws) I bought 2081 seals and it has 455860 seals on it. From what I've read the '86 and later Full Floaters were available in some applications with slip off drums. But I haven't seen anything about the seal size being different.

and upon further review it seems she has a 60 stuffed under her hind side, rather than a 14 bolt... What I get for listening to what other people tell me...

From my view it looks like your rear brake line is touching the exhaust pipe. That might not be a good idea.

ok.....there is actually two kinds of 14 bolts......althogh both have 14 bolts on the cover, one is the heavy duty full floater with a 10 1/2 ring and the other is a semi float c-clip with a 91/2 ring. you can identify the heavy duty version by the 6 bolt patern around the driveshaft yoke. the light duty looks smoth in that area , like any other rear and the drums come off like any other axle....i also have rear disc on my truck and im useing calipers and rotors off a dana 44 front axle and im useing brackets that bolt to the axle flange where the backing plate used to be..........hope this helps.

on every 14 bolt full floater i've had (5 of them) you have to pull the axle shaft, snap ring, woodruff key, spindle nut, then you can slide the brake drum off.
