Actually Randy, I live in the rust belt too. Not as bad as Minnesota though, but we have our share of rusted junk. I ended up going to Arkansas to get a better cab for my crewcab pickup that I was rebuilding.

With the additional descriptions SLS has posted, the truck could be worth the $2000....wish we had pics to look at!

Paid $2,000 for mine

It really depends what you are looking for. I have seen some nice trucks around here but none for sale for a reasonable price. One 67 gmc was trashed and I mean TRASHED and the guy was asking $600. Some places trucks may be a dime a dozen and easy to come by. I spent some time looking for mine . Paid for it and had it delivered. It needs some ( alot ) of work. Someone with a shop and tools + the know how to do the work might not see as much work as I see. It's their trade and I would imagine they have it down to a science. The truck runs good and I have whatever life I have left to get it to where I want it. I have spent far more and gotten far less in return. So for me this will be a project that I will spend time on. It is the year ( 67 ) and dream mode of transportation.

Howdy from good ole' '' RUSTY " West Virginia LOL!!! We have alot of rusted trucks too. IMHO, I'd look for a good one with a good rust free cab. the rest is unbolt and bolt. As far as that price thats good but the cab should be real good. Around here Iwon't look at one for 1k or less cos most of em' are junk!! Unless you are in the parts business. So I think I would keep lookin'!!!!!!!

UPDATE!

Hello again guys!

After taken the great advice shared by you all, and another, more thorough look at the truck in question,......I have decided to wait- and keep saving....and searching. The journey is part of the enjoyment, after all.......

The repair work that was done on the truck already was shoddy and would have to be completely redone. Also, in conversation with the owner, a 'little' wiring issue that involved a short in the alternator and involved some burning wires came to light as well. The trusty ol' magnet reveled cab corner bondo as well (from days gone by). Same with the area above the windshield....and one side of the bed. The mirror revealed that the cab supports may be in need of some TLC as well.

After looking over my notes I concluded that in order to save this truck a frame-off would be the only way to go....something which does not fit my agenda as the drivetrain is not original (and possibly questionable as well).

When I look at the truck I can see the potential...but the expense, time, and labor may just be a bit more than I am willing to undertake...even for the elusive shorty w/ the options.

I want to thank you all for your opinions and guidance... and I will take along on my journey with the fresh perspective that I hopefully have gained some new friends as well. No way have you guys heard the last from me. I WILL FIND MY TRUCK!!!! And I will still be reading at this site every night....learning and enjoying the fact that I have found the gathering place of the most dedicated and gracious ol' Chevy truck lovers on the planet.

And don't forget, Smitty can travel the South East on weekends to check out potential candidates so PLEASE do not hesitate to drop me a line if you run across a decent shorty in need of adoption and a bit of TLC.

I appreciate you all, and best wishes to you and your awesome trucks.

Good Call

Good call on waiting.....there's a deal to be found every day of the week. As luck would have it, if you'd bought that for $2k, the day after you would have found a 'loaded' 72 cheyenne going down the road with a For Sale $1,500 sticker in the back window. From one who didn't, hold out for the right truck. I bought a long step rotted to pieces, and have turned it into a short fleet where the only original sheet metal on the truck is the cab, or what I didn't have to replace (changed rockers, corners, cab mounts, floor panels and other various patches.) Wait...the deal will come.
