Anyone bought a "Canadian" gas tank?
After I drained the tank completely and set it out to dry, I determined it's not worth saving. The rust was pretty bad on the bottom and it has several microscopic pin holes. That explains the strong gas smell in the cab.
Has anyone ever bought a Canadian gas tank. According to this guy, it's made of "corrosion resistent Ni-Terne steel" and it's thicker gauge than the Taiwan made ones. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-68...item3a5d63610d |

It appears that these tanks are made in Canada.
http://www.spectrapremium.com/home.html If I had the opportunity to ditch my in-cab tank & move to a rear-mounted tank I would. Now would be a great time to make the swap.

Re: Anyone bought a "Canadian" gas tank?
Not to be biased, of course... I've installed a Spectra Premium tank in a '67 Chevelle with no problems. Other than that, I have only used their radiators, heater cores and A/C condensors, with good results.
The one on Ebay seems like a fair price and I think it would work for you. I buy mine from NAPA, I see that JC Whitney has them listed, however, maybe the site vendors carry thenm as well. Came across this thread: http://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/...=594883&page=2 .... in the last post, the problems seem to be solved. Good luck.

And the best thing about a new tank is there is no rust to remove which means no thin spots to worry about in the future, no worry that the rubber or plastic or paint coating inside may come loose and clog up your system and you will have a tank that is Ni-terne coated inside and out just as the original ones were before the insides were eaten away after years of use. If the original tank lasted 60 years then the forum member that’s around in 2070 can report back on whether this one has stood the test of time. I looked them up and they look legitimate. For a few more dollars I might go that route. |

Re: Anyone bought a "Canadian" gas tank?
Okay, y'all, I ordered the Spectra Premium gas tank from RockAuto. It was cheaper and the shipping was also cheaper than the ebay one. Overall, I saved about $20-$30 compared to the other tanks I had checked.
I'll post some info on it when I get it. |

Naw, I bet they have also succumed to the lure of quick profits and cheap labor from China.
I'm not opposed to that since it keeps the costs down, but only if they produce a better product than we could. |
