Thinking about buying this hulk.... 78 c-10 lwb

I am thinking of buying this.. I can get it for $400 bux. runs and drives but needs some brake work. Has some rust in the bed floor under the linner. which isnt that big of deal because I have a nice rust free floor on a dented bed on a parts truck if I decided I wanted it to be nice. I know its a turd. I am wanting a 6cyl 3pd truck to use to haul crap and cut grass. I been using a 01 ranger I put together from a $200 hulk but I can easily sell it for 4K if I get another work truck. I also have this 76 swb 250/3spd truck that I paid 150 bux for. It has a wasted cab and blown motor. Has like new tires and new exhaust and usable bed. I guess I could swap the cab and engine to this swb if I wanted. What do you think? What would you do? Leave it a lwb, fix the brakes, cheap paint and beat the hell out of it. or swap the stuff to the swb truck? O leave it alone all together.

BUY BOTH. That's what I would do, if you can get titles to both, fix one of them, sell it to fix the other up and keep it. Pick which one you want to keep before you start.

Re: Thinking about buying this hulk.... 78 c-10 lwb

I own the 76 already i've had it for a couple years... Its not going to be fixed. bottom 8in on cab is rusted away and needs roof skin. Its a parts truck. I bought it because it had new tires and a fixable bed and clean swb frame .I seen worse fixed on here but this is south carolina, rust free trucks are everywhere. I dont want this to be a slammed, unusable show room project truck.. Thats what my 82 and 84 swb are for.. If I do this it will just be a presentable beater work truck with maybe a little static drop but not much. btw I love your 76!

Re: Thinking about buying this hulk.... 78 c-10 lwb

Well then I'd say if it runs for $400 but just needs brake work and has "some" rust that you could fix yourself, then yeah, can't really beat that for a beater work truck. going to paint it? What kind of paint? You can get cheap acrylic enamel paint (like $200 for everything you need to paint the whole truck) will make it look really nice for a little while, but of course urethane is the way to go, but more expensive than the whole truck, so I wouldn't go that route on a beater work truck.

Buy it for $400, fix the brakes for $50-$100 max, sand a little, maybe blast a little on it, prime and paint it for another $200-$250 and there you go, presentable beater work truck with new paint job and brakes.

buy it and fix it, paint it and use it. All the other options seem to have a lot of work involved just for a work truck.
