Clutch problem need some guidance

Ok guys need your help here. Its a 68 GMC with a 250 and a 3 speed. The clutch will not grab until you let the pedal 3/4 of the way out and will shift between gears no problem all day long when you depress the clutch about1/4 of the way. Is this an adjustment issue or is the clutch shot? It seems like it slipping it screams at anything over 45 mph and just seems like its missing something(I Have no idea what rear is in it). And recently seems that it takes less pedal push to shift gears. Oh and gas milage is starting to take a crap as well, just hoping for some input since this is the first stick I have ever owned at age 37. Thanks for the help

Try this, put the emergency brake on and put into gear and let the clutch out...... it should stall....This will put a load on the clutch..... if it doesnt stall and you smell clutch.... it will sound like a clutch is needing to be replaced.

Did that, it stalled, but it still doesnt grab until the pedal is 3/4 of the way released, am I looking at an adjustment issue then possibly?

It is an adjustment that needs to be made to get your engage/disengage point at a "healthy" position.

It would be hard for me to tell you where or how to get that adjustment, since linkages and clutch pressure plates are so varied. A lot of times it takes just working the clutch pedal, while adjusting the op rod nut in or out until it is right.

Im going to try and adjust it then because I keep getting a grinding sound when the pedal is fully released that sounds like the throwout bearing never fully disengages as well so I will keep you guys updated and see what happens

one more follow up question here before I tackle this, since I read the manual that was posted above. Its says remove the spring from the clutch fork. I have no spring on my fork, should there be one on a 3 speed? and would that promote some of my problem here

Here is a exploded drawing and yes all 67-72s came from the factory with this spring,but you can rig up your own spring for now as its a long spring.
