rear end question
will a 60 rear bolt into a 65? mine is shot and i found one on cl out of a 60.thanks

If you have the trailering arm rear suspension then it should bolt right up but I'm far from an expert.

The trailing arm mounts are farther apart on the '60, and the panhard bar is longer on the '60 as compared to the '65. So consequently the panhard bar mount on the '60 rear end in on the passenger side axle tube as opposed to on the passenger side of the center section. If you get the panhard bar from the '60, you should be able to make it work with a little tweaking. The '60 rear end will likely have 3.90 gears, so that may or maynot effect your cruise rpm's, depending on what you have now.
If I were you I would keep looking for a rear end from a '63-early'70. The '63 &'64 will still have the longer panhard bar, but they are a better rear end, and will be more likely to have the same gear that you have now.

What is wrong with your rearend?
It may be cheaper (less time consuming) to just repair it than go through the troubles of changing the entire unit.. Also a good time to change the gear ratio of that is something you need/want to do. Besides, you already have a used rear end in the truck now; by rebuilding yours it should be one less thing to worry about. |

Glendale, like Captainfab said, the mounting pads are located differently (like 3 or 4 inches per side) on the 1960 model (assuming you mean 1960 and not dana 60). There may be enough compliance in the rubber bushings at the front of the trailing arms to allow you to mount the '65 arms on the earlier housing although the thought of doing so isn't appealing to me. The bigger problem will be the panhard bar as, again, Captainfab mentioned, which is a good bit longer on the earlier rearend, attaching in a different location.
'71-'72 rears ARE bolt in AND 5 bolt hubs (they are also a total of 1.5" wider), earlier than '71 was 6 bolt pattern, '73 and up is leaf spring, again, not bolt in. Bottom line is that the 1960 model is not a direct replacement.

Don't mean to hijack but does anyone know if the 80's rear ends will go in without driveshaft mods? I already have the weld on saddles for mating the diff to the trailing arms just curious about the driveshaft
