1962 GMC build input

hey guys.
looking for help on my new project. traded my desert prerunner for this and need to do something about the manual brakes, steering. thinking of using a 1973-87 donor truck/suburban for front suspension and adding the power brakes and steering since cash is tight.
any years i should avoid or try to get?
will rear axles swap over?
thanks for all the help.

The build part is usually a personal preference...but, I have to say that that is quite the trade.

Re: 1962 GMC build input

Welcome to the forum

That's a real nice looking '62 you traded for.

Here's a thread that should give you all the info you need for the front suspension swap.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ght=disc+brake

The '73-'87 rear ends will work, but they are 1.5" wider. If your GMC has leaf springs, it should bolt right up, but the shock mounts, will be in the wrong location. If your truck has trailing arms and coils, then you will have to remove the trailing arm mounts and panhard bar mount from the original rear end and weld them to the newer rear end.
