283 from a chevyII for my 66 stepside what about the tranny
what would be a good automatic tranny to use behind a 283 if i"m using a shift kit.what would be capable and what years.thanks

If you're looking for an automatic, I would go with the TH350.

Unless you do NOT intend to drive any extended distance at highway speeds, I would suggest an overdrive transmission like a TH200-4R or TH700-R4.

All day long. They are smaller in girth than a TH400. Well, the 4L80 is about the same size as the 400, but the 200 & 700 are slimmer.
