How do you turn a fleetside box over
So I have my box off my truck (80 fleetside) I want to turn it over and work on the underside. I have managed to pick it up so it is on the headboard. How do I lower it back on the top. By myself that is?

Re: How do you turn a fleetside box over
If you can get it to tilt you can stand on the "inside" and using your hands "walk" your way to the tailgate and then lower it down. It shouldn't be too awfully heavy I have lifted a whole long wide bed with only a couple of guys so just leaning one over shouldn't be too bad. Other than a hoist I don't think there is much other way to do it.

if it's on it's end of front should be able to stand in front of it, on the inside grab by the tailgate and walk it down as mentioned above.

FUNNY, yes it would be easy as a 2 many job. Its at my school where I teach and there is no one around for 2 more weeks. Trying to get the bodywork done so the kiddies can work on the 1000's of other things.

Get creative with your cherry picker and a few straps. It can be done.

Re: How do you turn a fleetside box over
Here is how I did it.
Raise the engine crane to about 6 inches from the tail gate. pull the box toward the crane. rest it on the top of the crane boom. Take a brake. then low the boom slowly and wheel the crane away from the box. It starts out ok but at the end say the last 3 feet she wants to slide. I but a couple of milk crates under the corners. should have stacked 2 up that would have been better. So that is how you flip an 8 foot box by your self. Of course almost as soon as it was done a fellow teachers shows up! |
