x pipe exhaust
im about to put exhaust on my 69 shortbed with coil springs in rear. im going to use a xpipe kit from jegs and im using 21/2 pipe, does any one have pictures of there exhaust, im running long tube headers. it is possible to fab it up so the exhaust is not lower the the frame? i have a aftermarket tranny crossmember. i was thinking about cutting wholes in rear crossmember and pass pipes through and stand mufflers on there side,hang and dump them in front of axle. any advice or pics would be great

Not sure about cutting up the rear x member. Several of the after market parts houses (CCP, Brothers) have a bolt in x member with cut outs to pass the exhaust through. With the tube style trans cross member and the rear with holes you can get the exhaust tucked up. The only part that would be below the frame are the headers and the exhaust before the turn up. Looking forward to hearing from more who have done this. Is there enough room for an xpipe?

I just put the caddy in my truck and sorry I can't post pics but heres the run down on mine
you need to use some sort of 3/4 header ....the pass side is an easy shot...on the DS your going to need to get under the shift linkage ( so when they build it put it in LOW while building it on the lift this will give you all the clearance you need) then its straight back to your X memeber if you look at it there is are >< cuts in the X already near the ends all I did was make a 3" circle out of them with a plasma and ran the exhaust though there....I have a hanger on one of the bed cross rails just after the X memeber to carry the weight of the muffler .... then the mufflers are on an angle with about a 2' piece of pipe bent to follow the angle of the rear shocks...( this keeps the heat off your Bags?? tires and shocks)... I reused the Muffs from my 283 ( stardard thrush 18" long or so) and I was amazed how quite they are on the 500...2 1/4" pipe all the way! with no X pipe ?? I would like it to bark a bit more but I guess the sleeper mod works too!!
