Which wiring harness to get

I would like to rewire my entire truck. The PO really made a mess of things and I think it would be best to just start over. I was thinking about the Painless one, but I thought there may be others that people have used that are better. Anyone have an opinion?

Re: Which wiring harness to get

I have the EZ wire in my truck, only complaint is some of the terminals in the fuse panel came out while installing it correctly, the PO just threw it in with a crap ton of electrical tape. So I started all over using the same harness, although I used crimp terminals and glued heat shrink so not a possibility of any corrosion ever... That being said the terminals that came loose could very well have been due to the hastily install the PO did, so I guess I can’t really blame the brand, other than that I like it, all wires labeled with plenty of accessories if need be. I would check all terminals prior to install just to make sure nothing pops out after you got it all tucked away neatly.

Re: Which wiring harness to get

Thanks for the info. The EZ wire has a good price, but it looks like a generic harness. The American Auto one looks like it has everything, but is almost $600. The painless one looks like it has most everything, is a custom fit for my truck, and is under $400.

Re: Which wiring harness to get

I just found a company called Rebel wiring. They offer an EFI 20 circuit harness. Since I am in the process of putting a 2008 Silverado 5.3 in I think that maybe this is the way to go. Anyone tried this one?

Re: Which wiring harness to get

Can't help with the Rebel, but I put a painless kit into my Blazer, and would go with either the same kit or an EZ wire kit if I ever had to do it again. IIRC, the painless had some extra wires for EFI...didn't pay attention to them much since I didn't need them, but I know for sure it has a wire for a fuel pump in the tail area.

I got one just like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I havnt installed it yet, but it looks really nice. I have only done 3 complete wiring harness' before, but this it the cheapest and the nicest looking one I have ever bought.

I believe this is the EZ one. I think I want the colored wires. Seems like a good price though.

Yes its the EZ wiring harness, all my wires are colored it just has the black protective mesh on it. I thought it might look better on my truck. The same vendor has the regular wiring harness as well for the same amount.

Re: Which wiring harness to get

Unless you are adding a computer controlled engine, power everything etc. M&H or American Auto Wire are very very nice plug and play STOCK harnesses, they do offer units that upgrade to hei. I have used both brands and have had zero problems, all connections were already made with as- original terminals. The painful and other similar kits require that you crimp all connections and you will need a stock harness to pull special terminals off of (you reuse old stuff). The wires are labelled and you can custom route everything, but you are looking at several days with a schematic or a couple of hours and be ready to go.

Re: Which wiring harness to get

I am thinking that I will just go with the EZ Wiring setup. It is the cheapest and seems like it is going to work with my EFI setup.

Re: Which wiring harness to get

i've either installed or help install both the painless and the ez wiring harnesses. just personal opinion here, but the painless harness is not "more nice" enough to justify the much higher price.

for what it's worth, I have a universal 24 circuit EZ Wiring harness in my current truck project.
