The marker lights are different, and the latch hole is different as well. I like the GMC hoods better. I wish I was closer too you, I sure would like one of those hoods.

The GMC hood will fit. The markers and the openings between them are just shaped differently. Your new marker bezels won't fit though.

Re: this is what i did to my truck today!!

The hood latch mechanisms are the same for GMC and Chevy hoods, although there are two types - one for the 60-61 hoods with a bottom release handle and the 62-66 style with the side release handle.

The difference in the hoods is cosmetic - the GMC has a scoop formed in the lower front panel instead of the "flat" area on the Chevy version. Many people prefer the GMC hood being more stylish (subject to personal opinion). I prefer the front of the GMC hood better, but like the Chevy parking lights/rims better, which do not interchange. The GMC design does not use a separate rim. For years the GMC lenses were not available, but now can be had in clear or amber:

http://www.classicparts.com/1962-66-...nfo/47%2D136L/

When I was a kid the hood flew open on my dads Metropolitan with the same startling results, although it also smashed his windshield. It made a lasting impression, every car I have owned has had the hood chained down with a padlock. When my Chevelle was wrecked by a drunk driver, the chain was what kept the hood from coming through the windshield after the driver side hinge was torn off.

Should you want to chain you hood in the future here's an earlier thread on the topic:

Hell ya! if they fit im doing it! i had a 64 gmc and i like how the opening in the front are also bigger than the chevy hood! the side markers are a little bigger than the chevy but they still look good!

WOW, that really bites Lost
I think I'd be looking for more damage under the truck
and something bad had to have happened to that hinge.
I see your truck is lowered,is this an example of what can happen when the bumpstops get hit too hard?

I like the look of the gmc hood, got one on my 65.
you can cut the chevy portion off and interchange it with the gmc, would end up with a filled seam though.

Re: this is what i did to my truck today!!

If you put some new clear lenses on the turn signals you might like them a little more. You could also paint the outer rim the same color as the truck to make them look smaller.

^^^x2. You're lucky that you don't have rubberbands for tires, a pothole like that would have popped a tire and definitely damaged a rim. I'm glad that you and your windshield are fine. I've been thinking about installing hood pins, I'll take this as a sign.

The rim on my replacements are "chrome-ish". Not mirror chrome but not dull silver either.

Re: this is what i did to my truck today!!

ok so i got the gmc hood put on ! it fits pretty good just need to make some hinge adjustments, and need to order some marker light lens. im going to try and find a chevy hood still but gmc will do for no,and i plan making a chain locking system for saftey and for security.
