LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

Anyone added up how much they were into the swap not including the engine and trans? I'm wondering how much it would cost with all the odd and end parts to do the swap. Mounts, wiring harness, etc.

Thanks,
Anthony

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

All together I guess mine would be around $800. without the eng and trans. I replaced some other parts not related to the eng swap though ( brake lines, prop valve, wiring harness, etc.).

I also had a bad motor to deal with too, so I had to pull and replace once too.

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

I'm ballparking around $3500 for mine, not including engine and trans. But I am going with an aftermarket ECM and harness that includes a DBW pedal that runs about $1800. My headers will be around $600 and my mounts will run around $500. And my drive shaft will be around $600. And I'm not sure what my shifter linkage will cost.

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

Looks like about 32-3500 on mine thats projected. I have spent 28 so far and am not quite done. That include the engine and trans. I still have to shorten the driveshaft, run exhaust. I am sure that there will be some other assorted items left to buy.

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

Not including the 6.0/4l80e (which I bartered for!) I have $500 in mine for the harness. But even that was overcome by selling parts I removed to do the swap in the first place! It's the rest of the frame off I'm doing thats killing me.

I never plan on selling the truck...so I didn't keep track, partially because I didn't want to know either!

You can do it the more inexpensive stock way, or you can do it the more stupid radical way..

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

I purchased the truck with no motor for 2500, 5.3 w/ all the accessories and wiring harness was 850, misc parts probably another 750-1000, I did all the rewiring of the harness myself to save some money, I also already own HP Tuners for my other car, so I can do all my own tuning as well. All together I should get out of it for just under 5k including the cost of the truck!

...whats that supposed to mean? The only way to do it is to buy a complete/used motor? And whats radical...and whats stupid about going that way?

I don't think everyone wants to go with used (non-rebuilt-as pulled) equipment. I know I didn't.

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

Judging by his signature, I think he's ribbing himself for blowing all his dime on engines I don't think he meant that as a knock to built LSx engines.

Right.. But I'm in the really stupid catagory now.. The little forged 347 had me in the stupid catagory, but obviously moved the truck well and I didn't even use the second stage. But now there is a 418 ci motor with AFR 225 heads waiting to go in. That put's me in the really stupid catagory..

Most the swaps you will see will be mild in comparisson to what I have in mine. Most will be a stock rebuild if any at all, retaining factory pistons/rods and maybe a rering/bearing job and stock tq converter with maybe a 3.73 gear. They might go with a mild 224ish cam, again retaining stock heads and intake.

Mine in comparison has ported heads, 243/250 .610/.612 lift cam, Super Victor with a dominator throttle body, 4500 rpm verter and 4.56 gears.

The new motor is even worse and is most likely going to make me change the verter and gear set to optimize the new combo.

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

I was curious where he was going with that. Guess I'm stupid too.
well my cams not too far off that mark lift wise, but short on duration....223/231 @.050 - .610/.617 - 112LSA.

Since your trucks not much different weight wise (stock) and I'm guessing you've had lots of runs with it....with a new 6.0L w/L92 heads, cam listed above w/patriot gold spring kit, GMPP LSX d/p intake and 750 Street HP carb, 200-4r, 2500rpm stall, 3.73's, and some 315/60-15 MT ET streets (not sure of headers yet)...care to make a 1/4mi. prediction? HP has been estimated at 500+hp... but have been told not to be surprised if I see closer to 550-600hp. Hoping for some high 11's ...but I'll take low 12's.

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

With 3.73's that exact tire and my 4,500rpm verter, I went 11.96@113mph with a 1.67 60' running the 347ci 11-1 motor with the mentioned cam and intake at 3800lbs (including me). You should have a bit more bottome end TQ, but that verter might slow things down a bit. I think you'll be close to your goals.

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

Thanks for your thoughts. I figured I might as well start with a dual plane and lower stall converter for the street...until I start dialing it in and getting more involved in taking it to the track. The plan has always been to drive it there and back, so I'll be beefing up things as I make it faster. I will say tho that for a dual plane intake....its certainly a high rise, or at least the tallest I've seen.

Re: LS Swap Guys- In Here Please!

I know it is not a truck, but you guys have me beat in the weight department. It might give you an idea of what to expect once you get her together. To give you some more of an idea, my car weighs 3995 with me in it, i run a 26" slick with a faceplated t56 trans. The motor is a stock bottom end ls2 with a 232/234 cam .598 lift i/e, kooks headers, and a FAST intake, the motor made 434hp/404tq at the wheels, on motor the car went 11.71 @ 115mph, on a 50shot it has gone a best of 11.31 @118 and on a 100 shot with the clutch slipping in 4th it went 11.18 at 122. It has gone 126 before but without the 60' to back it up.
