Question Looking for old magazine articles

Does anybody know where I can find some historic articles about our trucks? A Google search doesn't seem to yield anything, other than the mention of a C20 Longhorn road test in Motor Trend's 5/'69 issue. Do any of you guys have articles from back in the day? I love looking at these old road tests, seeing what they thought of our vehicles when new!

Re: Looking for old magazine articles

not a road test but what I have done is hit the flea markets and find the end of the year ( sept to dec) issues of Life or what ever you happen to find.....if your truck is a 69 look in the late 68....then pull the page out with the add and throw it into a frame they look cool and the frame will cost more than the Mag you'll have $10 or so in it

then if you want to get fancy find a lience plate and put it either on the top or bottm of it

Re: Looking for old magazine articles

This thread made me think of something i havent thought about in 15 years.

My dad collected Road & Track and Motor Trend magazines way back in the late 60's, early 70's. I know there are 3 Xerox paper boxes of magazines and each box is lined with a black garbage bag, so I know the magazines are still in pristine condition.

As too what particular dates and how many magazines, i dont know. I would guess over 100, maybe 200 or more magazines.

Next time i go to Huntsville, Al I will get them from my moms house.

Send me a PM so i can find your screen name when i get them.

Re: Looking for old magazine articles

When trucks were tested, it wasn't the car mags that did it. It was magazines like Mechanics Illustrated; Popular Mechanics and Popular Science. Hot Rod did some but the ones they tested were the El Caminos and the Rancheros, not pickup trucks (that were new). Heck, even pickup trucks that were post-WWII weren't featured very often. The '53-56 Fords were more popular in the magazines (Hot Rod, Car Craft, Rod & Custom, etc.) back then. Late model trucks just didn't have the cajones to grab the attention of the buying public....because the public bought trucks to use as, well.....trucks. Not until this body style was introduced for the '67 model year, had trucks been available with "passenger-car amenities", like integral AC. Yeah, my '65 C-10 had factory air, but it wasn't as "DeLuxe" as the AC was for '67.

You might try looking in antique shops and flea markets for the magazines I listed (Pop Sci; Mech Ill; Pop Mech).

Re: Looking for old magazine articles

Here's some good stuff, but the magazine articles are only about Blazers, not pickups.
